DISABILITES

Living with a Disability

Equip yourself for increased independence

Whether you or a loved one has a disability; planning for the future and increasing independence are important goals.  The type of support that you may need will depend on a range of factors including your personal circumstances, home environment and life goals. Perhaps you want to enhance your daily life, improve your ability to access the community, or increase your social skills and support your mental wellbeing; our occupational therapists can assist you.

Our occupational therapists can provide home modification assessments, to recommend and facilitate modifications to be undertaken to improve your accessibility, safety, and independence in the home.  Our therapists can also complete Assistive Technology (AT) assessments, in order to assess what aids or equipment may be available and suitable to assist you with (inter alia) mobility, personal cares, cooking, and leisure activities.  Our team can also assess your capacity to complete your basic and instrumental activities of daily living (such as showering or cleaning your home) and recommend and/or organise different Government funding options for commercial core supports.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support to people experiencing a wide range of disabilities.  Whether you have sustained a spinal cord injury, are experiencing chronic pain, have a psychiatric condition, and/or have an intellectual disability; you may be eligible to become a NDIS applicant.  Understanding how to gain access to the NDIS can be confusing and overwhelming for many.  Our occupational therapists can assist you through the NDIS application process, including completing relevant occupational therapy assessments and providing appropriate reporting to support your application.

Our occupational therapists work with you and your family, to equip you to live as independently as you can, so you can enjoy life.

Depending on the services required, you can access our assistance through a range of funding sources (including private funding, NDIS funding (for self or planned managed participants), ACAT funding, or a Medicare funding (through a Chronic Disease Management Plan referral from your general medical practitioner).

We can help you with:

  • NDIS OT assessments and application assistance
  • Liaising with NDIS where required
  • Home modification assessments and organisation of modifications
  • Assistive technology (AT) assessments
  • Assessments of basic and instrumental activities of daily living
