Pre-employment screening

Protect your workers before they start

Maintaining a safe workplace starts before you hire someone. Pre-employment screening gives you peace of mind that your prospective employees are fit to perform their role and identifies what you need to do to protect them. It can save you time and money by making sure you hire the right person for the role.

Many workplaces can be challenging for even the most experienced people to work in. Perhaps there are confined spaces, hazardous materials, heavy lifting or the role involves sitting for long periods of time. How your workplace is designed and the core demands of a job can impact people differently. A personalised pre-employment screening makes sure that a candidate is capable of performing a role and minimises their risk of injury.

Our pre-employment screening assessments are not about ticking a box. Our experienced occupational therapists work collaboratively with you and your prospective employees to make sure they can perform their role and have the tools and facilities they need to be safe and productive.

A pre-employment screening begins with the job description. We can even help you prepare one or revise your existing one if required. Our experienced occupational therapists visit your workplace to assess the work environment and observe how your crew currently works. We then identify what tasks the role involves and test applicants to determine whether they’re fit to perform the role. You will receive a report and recommendations about the suitability of your workplace in general and for the specific individual. If you have limited capacity or don’t have the necessary skills, we can even help you implement our recommendations and train your employees.

We can help you with:

  • Personalise your pre-employment assessments
  • Review and tailor job descriptions
  • Identify the core demands of a role
  • Understand the applicants physical and personal history
  • Assess an individual’s physical and mental capability to perform a role
  • Assess your work environment for social and mental health factors
  • Conduct an ergonomic assessment of your worksite
  • Identify potential risks in your workplace for an individual
  • Recommend interventions or tools that can assist new employees
  • Train your new employees so they can perform their role
  • Test applicants to assess their fit for the role

Workplace ergonomics

Protect your workers from injury

How your workplace is set up can impact the wellbeing and health of your workers. Making sure your sites are ergonomically fit for purpose or that workers are trained in how to do aspects of their job correctly can help reduce illness and injury. It can also make sure that people returning to work after injury are safe and productive.

Workplace ergonomics involves much more than setting up workstations correctly. It can include making sure people are lifting correctly, positioning themselves to reduce pain and making sure respiratory disorders are not exacerbated.

Our objective is to help you create and maintain a safe working environment and make sure your workers know how to protect themselves. Our experienced occupational therapists work collaboratively with you to assess the ergonomics of your workplace to make sure it’s fit for purpose and create bespoke on site ergonomic training specific to your workplace. These programs include explaining the risks, demonstrating how to reduce the chance of injury and observing people to make sure they know how to perform tasks safely. We also create personalised programs for people returning to work after injury or for anyone else who wants to know how to minimise the chance of hurting themselves at work. We also make recommendations on how to modify a worksite to suit the needs of an individual and can help you implement these if you need.

We provide workplace ergonomic training and programs for a wide variety of work situations including office environments, roles that require heavy lifting or enclosed spaces, and for people who experience chronic pain or have respiratory disorders caused by issues such as silicosis or asbestos. Industries that we’ve worked in include ……

Post-accident engagement

Return to work safely

When you’re injured the thought of returning to work can be scary but the cost of delaying it can be significant. You can help your workers get back on the job with care and support. But everyone is different and needs a personalised approach to make sure they’re safe.

There are often a team of people involved in helping someone recovering from injury or illness. Our occupational therapists work in collaboration with medical practitioners and other allied health professionals to help you get back to work.

The objective of any return to work strategy is to make sure the results are sustainable. Returning to work too quickly may cause more harm but we can suggest ways to help speed up the process where appropriate. The earlier you start planning to return to work the better.

The first step in our approach is to assess the injury or illness and how it may impact the person’s ability to do their job. We also speak to the other medical practitioners to understand their perspective and liaise with the employer to make sure everyone is on the same page. We then put in place a plan to get back to the worksite. The plan may involve a slow and steady approach to move from lighter duties to returning back to their original position and training to work in a different way. There may also be modifications that could be made to the worksite to make it safer and expedite the return to work. Training workers to manage their pain and put in place strategies to reduce the chance of being injured again is also critical. Once they’re back at work, we also monitor progress to ensure pain is and the risk of injury is minimised.

Employers also have regulatory and compliance obligations to ensure they provide a safe work environment and facilitate someone returning to work after injury or illness. We can help you understand your obligations and put in place strategies to meet them.

Our experienced occupational therapists have helped workers return to work successfully following injury and illness in ……. Their experience includes ….

We can help:

  • Assess the injury or illness and how it impacts their ability to work
  • Recommend post-accident interventions and rehabilitation
  • Recommend ways for workers to manage pain
  • Assess the worksite and identify any modifications that could be made
  • Create a plan to return to work safely
  • Recommend suitable duties
  • Train workers on how to do their roles safely

Vocational retraining

Retraining to a new vocation

It’s not always possible to return to the same job or worksite after an injury or illness. The thought of retraining for a new vocation or role can be daunting. But with support and assistance you can move forward with confidence.

It takes a team of people to help transition to a new vocation. Our occupational therapists work closely with general practitioners, medical specialists and other allied health professionals to help you find the best opportunities.

When it comes to vocational retraining, everyone has different needs and skills. Our services are tailored to your specific needs and help you become job ready.

We work with you to understand your existing skills and the limitations of your injury and illness. We then assess your skills to determine if there’s an opportunity to be redeployed within the same organisation and recommend possible interventions or training that may help you transition to a new role. If redeployment is not possible, we can recommend other vocations that may be suitable and identify what training is required. It may be a long time since you had a job interview, so we can also help you create your resume or CV and prepare to be interviewed.

We can help:

  • Assess your transferable skills and capabilities
  • Articulate your vocational goals
  • Match your skills with your vocational goals
  • Identify potential roles for redeployment or transition
  • Determine what vocational retraining is required
  • Assess potential worksites for suitability
  • Create a personalised vocational retraining plan
  • Build confidence and skills in searching for a job
  • Assist in preparing your resume and preparing for job interviews
